A RETRO PERSPECTIVE: REVISITING PRINTS FROM THE PERMANENT COLLECTION

NOW OPEN!

In 1973, the Norton Center celebrated its grand opening with an exhibition of works loaned by the Guggenheim Museum. Many of the artists who were featured are now considered pioneers of Modern Art — artists including Andy Warhol, Karel Appel and Adolph Gottlieb. The exhibition inspired Centre College to actively collect graphic prints by these artists and their contemporaries. To celebrate the Norton Center’s 50th anniversary, selections from this special collection will be exhibited throughout the season.

Here comes the sun... ☀️

When the sun hits just the right angle during the day, the Norton Center Grand Foyer is transformed into an organic, moving piece of art.

🔆 Following Wright’s architectural philosophy, William Wesley Peters ensured natural light was incorporated into the Norton Center's design. Sunlight pours through the two-story windows, casting linear patterns of their panes onto the floors and walls.

🌎 As the earth moves, the patterns move, beautifully exemplifying the organic architecture principles of blending built spaces with the surrounding natural environment.
